Ast & Fischer AG realises comprehensive WIFI coverage
An easy-to-administrate and comprehensive wireless infrastructure is indispensable for today’s companies. Above all, it must perform well and support laptops, tablets and smartphones in the business environment. A WIFI infrastructure should be planned carefully, dimensioned correctly and flawlessly integrated into the technology. In addition, security must always be ensured. A&F realised this project together with Ast & Fischer AG in Wabern. Ast & Fischer AG designs, produces and distributes digital and printed publications of the highest quality – from the idea to realisation.
The starting point
Thus far, Ast & Fischer used a point-source wireless infrastructure via standalone access points without a controller. This was meant to only equip certain areas in the company building in Wabern. Over time, the WIFI coverage at individual locations was then improved with additional standalone access points. At the end of 2017, Ast & Fischer finally decided to realise a comprehensive WIFI connection.
One problem was that the Ast & Fischer building is very large, spanning several floors in some parts. The number of users also increased greatly compared to the initial stages. Moreover, Ast & Fischer is not the only user of the WIFI infrastructure. They have been working with Rub Media AG since 2012 and this company equally needs access. In addition, the wireless infrastructure should be available to both, internal staff and guests.
Thanks to the longstanding IT partnership, A&F Computersysteme AG was commissioned with the project realisation. A&F acted as consultant, developed the WIFI concept including the planning and handled the realisation on-site.
The A&F security & network specialists used a special analysis and planning software to determine the number and locations of the necessary access points based on the floor plans. This enabled them to define the required quantity structure of the WIFI coverage exactly. The objective was to integrate a controller-based solution that facilitates easy operation, fast troubleshooting and scalability. The controller-based method uses an additional assembly with the controller which handles the configuration, security settings and monitoring of the access points. The benefits of this method increase with the number of access points used.
The realisation of the WIFI solution achieved the desired results which was reflected in the positive customer feedback:
