CAS and a&f – Part 2: Even more stability
In our Part 1: On the same wavelength from the start, we presented the extended network environment of CAS. Yet, that was not the end of the project. CAS GRUPPE AG entrusted its Apple environment to a&f systems ag.
CAS GRUPPE AG was established in Willisau and Altdorf in 1994. As a full-service provider in the construction and real estate sector, it covers the entire value chain in relation to planning and management. Around 50 qualified employees contribute their knowledge and competences to cross-functional projects at the Lucerne, Altdorf, Willisau and Fribourg locations. CAS has been working with a&f systems ag since 2012. The initial small Apple repairs were soon replaced with larger projects. Today, a&f support the entire CAS ICT environment.
The decision to engage a&f systems ag was made rather quickly. Not only does a&f provide the Apple devices and Apple servers, it also supports hybrid system environments (Windows, Linux and Apple) and all aspects related to security and networks. Thus, a&f offers a broad overall product and service portfolio.
CAS GRUPPE AG wanted greater stability in its Apple environment. The objective was to facilitate failure-free work for all employees as consistently as possible, thereby reducing support requests. Moreover, efficient software should be employed for the central management of the Apple environment to avoid time-consuming updates.
Munki now handles the central administration of CAS’ Apple client environment. Apple recommends central administration through Apple Business Manager in combination with EMM / Mobile Device Management (MDM). In addition, an Apple System Engineer is on-site each month to service the Apple environment of CAS. This ensures that the latest version of all security and software updates is installed. This resulted in significant support and cost minimisations. The previous internal email server was replaced with external hosting with Microsoft Office 365. To ensure cloud-stored data is still kept in-house, it will be backed up by Veeam in the future.
The project was a resounding success for CAS GRUPPE AG. The stability of the Apple environment was increased significantly, considerably reducing the number of support requests. Thanks to the central administration with Munki, updates can be installed with only a few clicks of the mouse. These processes used to take up several working days. Moreover, workstations had to be cleared to facilitate updates. Especially for the drawing program used, this required significant time and cost investment, as all workstations had to be updated simultaneously.
