CAS and a&f – Part 1: On the same wavelength from the start
CAS GRUPPE AG was established in Willisau and Altdorf in 1994. As a full-service provider in the construction and real estate sector, it covers the entire value chain in relation to planning and management. Around 50 qualified employees contribute their knowledge and competences to cross-functional projects at the Lucerne, Altdorf, Willisau and Fribourg locations. CAS has been working with a&f systems ag since 2012. The initial small Apple repairs were soon replaced with larger projects. Today, a&f support the entire CAS ICT environment.
How it all began
CAS GRUPPE AG has been in contact with a&f systems ag since 2012. Back then, a&f only handled Apple repairs in its own certified Apple service centre. In 2017, a&f was called in for the first support assignment when the CAS server environment failed completely. CAS GRUPPE AG had switched from external ICT support to an internal solution with three ICT specialists. Thanks to its hotline and 24/7 on-call duty, a&f was able to provide technical specialists immediately and remedy the emergency. In order to prevent further failures, the CAS management ordered a neutral analysis of the existing ICT environment. Following a review of the current situation, the neutral analysis presented to the customer focused on the following points:
- Secure and high-performing
- Low maintenance
The a&f analysis fully convinced the management of CAS GRUPPE AG. Immediate measures included commissioning a&f to monitor the ICT environment and revise the backup concept.
Extended cooperation – The CAS network environment
The a&f analysis recommended further optimisations, which were applied successively after the immediate measures were in place. The first project involved optimising the CAS network environment.
The entire network (LAN and WLAN) of CAS Gruppe AG had been designed as a location-based island solution – and functionality was limited. Access to server services was flawed and data synchronisation from mobile devices was slow. In order to ensure full local network reliability, including wireless connections, CAS decided on a professional concept focused on scalability and central administration.
CAS GRUPPE AG wanted a stable and redundant network environment with direct access to the internally operated systems without VPN. In addition, a separate guest WiFi was needed. The same access should be available in each branch. Moreover, the WiFi connection should be faster, more stable and simpler. a&f was expected to deliver fast implementation with high-quality results – no small feat. Meanwhile, requirements engineering and cost-effectiveness also had live up to the optimal standard.
The network of the four locations in Lucerne, Altdorf, Willisau and Fribourg was centralised with MPLS, hardware redundancies were developed and comprehensive WiFi coverage was realised. The entire network is monitored at all times.
The results are impressive. While costs had been holding CAS back for a long time, a&f convinced them otherwise:
CAS GRUPPE AG is more than satisfied with its new network environment. Speed and continuous connectivity increase productivity, creating a positive working atmosphere. In particular, the laptops connected to WiFi can simply be taken into spontaneous meetings – Team members no longer depend on cables. Thanks to the reliable wireless network, employees are always connected and can access all systems.
