Backup solution for Kromer Print AG – Security comes first
Kromer Print AG is based in Lenzburg and offers a broad range of services relating to optimal presentation and reproduction of visual information. The family business specialises in the production and distribution of printed and electronic products. Backup of its key data is an important topic for Kromer – as is the associated security, primarily due to the current threat of encryption trojans. Together with a&f systems ag, Kromer Print AG now realised a new backup concepts in the green data centre.
Thus far, Kromer Print AG has been working exclusively with inhouse backup. Backup to tape was used for external storage. This type of backup involved greater time and cost investment, as well as weekly manual tape replacement. The objective was to realise a secure and fully-automatic backup solution that no longer required manual intervention.
The new data backup must guarantee absolute data security. Backup in the cloud seemed the obvious solution. For data protection reasons, it was imperative that this would be realised in a Swiss data centre. Kromer Print AG is ISO 27001 certified and bound to clearly notify its customers of that. The a&f Community Cloud meets all requirements. It is located in the “greenDatacenter Zürich-West”. The Swiss data centre offers maximum quality in terms of location, infrastructure and operator, and is ISO and Tier IV certified.
The biggest hurdle for cloud backup is the large data volumes that need to be transferred. This also applies to Kromer Print AG. The initial full online backup requires large bandwidths and usually takes far too long. a&f systems ag offers an ideal solution for big data clients, such as Kromer – or generally, media firms, agencies and architects. The required backup memory is defined together with the client. The client then purchases the backup device and the suitable backup software once. The initial backup is made on the client’s premises. This ensures enormous time savings compared to an online backup. The backup device is then transferred to the greenDatacenter. All changes are automatically backed up from this point onwards. This process was also adopted for Kromer Print AG. If the client experiences a disaster, a&f hands over the complete backup device containing all data. a&f systems ag offers this service 24/7. This eliminates the need to read data back via the internet, as would usually be the case with cloud backups – and require far too much time for the large data volumes Kromer Print AG handles. It is also important that companies think about potential system failures in advance. Kromer regularly carries out a disaster test – and benefits from an extensive, up-to-date emergency manual.
The transition to backup housing in the a&f Community Cloud was a resounding success. All data of Kromer Print AG is now backed up automatically. This minimises expenses for Kromer. And security standards are high: the data transfer is encrypted while external storage keeps data both secure and continuously available.
